The Hucking Hilarious Hairy Princess

“After breakfast, let’s all  go to the park and play before we take Aidan home. It will give her Mama and Papa a   longer break,  besides it will be fun and the exercise will do us good.” said Nana and Susan.

They were at Sea Dreams, a cozy little cottage that Susan, Roger, Nana and Grandpa were renting because Aidan’s house wasn’t big enough for everyone to stay in. Aidan had stayed over night so the four adults could enjoy her company on her own. It was at the cottage that she found a woman’s slip in a dresser drawer. The slip most likely had been left behind by a previous renter. Aidan had a lot of fun wearing the slip around the cottage, frolicking and playing make believe fairy pretending she could soar around the rooms, much to the adults’ delight. In addition, there were games and puzzles to entertain her. Aidan had brought much fun and enjoyment to the cottage the night before.

“I like going  to the park. There are slides, swings, bars and lots of room to run and play, Said Aidan, Mama and Papa take me there all the time.”

Grandpa and Nana, Susan and Roger and three year old Aidan decided to walk over to Chetzemoka Park, located in Port Townsend, Washington where Aidan lives. The four adults were there to visit her  and her mother and dad. It had been almost two years since they had last been to visit. And all four were excited that they were going to the park to spend the afternoon with Aidan. Besides it would give her mom and dad a  needed break from entertaining everyone.

So off the five went on that beautiful spring day to spend some time in the park. Along the way they passed many beautiful old houses with gorgeous flower gardens. So it took awhile to get to Chetzemoka Park. But the day was pleasant and the yards were beautiful and no one minded the walk.

Once they got to the park they took turns chasing Aidan everywhere, from one play area to the other. She wanted to play on the swings, the slides and the bars. It was fun for Aidan but she quickly tired out the four adults. They sat on a bench and looked at the Strait of Juan de Fuca, a big body of water that ocean going ships use to get to Seattle, as well as the snow covered mountains in the distance. There were lots of boats sailing and the view was pretty and relaxing.

Soon it was time to leave  and they still had time to go down town to shop and maybe get some candy and ice cream before returning to Aidan’s house. The five left the park and started down the hill where the stores were located. Because Aidan had played so hard at the park she was tired and begged to be carried. She was too big to be easily carried like a baby so Grandpa hoisted her up on his shoulders to carry her. Aidan had never been carried that way before. She giggled and laughed while fluffing her grandpas hair with her fingers and kept repeating   “This is “hucking  hilarious!” The adults didn’t seem to understand what she was saying, although Roger had a funny smile on his face. They all just laughed along with her...it was great fun!

Finally they reached the downtown street where the stores were located. Grandpa was tired after carrying Aidan downtown from the park, so he found a bench to sit and rest while the others took Aidan shopping. First they  went into children’s stores to look at dresses for Aidan. When Grandpa was rested he rejoined the others in one of the stores and asked Aidan which dress she liked best.

“Oh, I know the dress I want Grandpa, I want the   “hairy princess dress!” replied Aidan.

“ The hairy princess dress? I don’t know what that kind of dress looks like, Aidan. You will just have to show me.”

Leaving the others behind, Aidan grabbed her grandpa by the hand and made a bee line to the dress she wanted. “That’s the one I want right there,  the real pretty one. The one that looks just like a hairy princess dress. I want it really, really bad. My Mama or Papa won’t let me have it because they say it is too big for me.”

Grandpa looked at the dress, baffled by Aidan calling it a “hairy princess dress.” He examined it closely and made up his mind. “Well it is a little big to fit you now, but you will grow into it eventually . But by the time you grow big enough to fit it, the dress may have been sold. So I’m going to buy it for you now, and your Mama or Nana can adjust it for you until you grow into it, said a smiling  Grandpa.

By the time Roger, Susan and Nana found the scheming duo, Grandpa had already bought the dress. The others agreed that it was a little too big but because Grandpa had already paid for it, there was no way of convincing Aidan to give up her prize. After a bit of discussion, Nana said she thought  she could take it in to fit until Aidan grew into it. And so, the shopping continued.

They soon found themselves in a used book store where Aidan insisted she wanted a certain book. She said the name over and over. Once again, the adults struggled to understand what  Aidan wanted, although Roger had an inkling. Roger and Aidan searched all over for the right book, but it couldn’t be found. Finally, Roger asked Aidan if she knew the name of the book she wanted. She replied she wanted a “hairy princess book.” Although she had picked up different books several times during their search, the title didn’t include “hairy,” so the two of them continued to look. Finally Roger picked up a book and showed it to Aidan, who made another bee line straight to him and the book she wanted.

Roger said,  “you want this book! You want a FAIRY PRINCESS BOOK!”

“Yes, I want this hairy princess book,” said Aidan

All four adults understood at the same time. “Hairy Princess Dress,” “Hairy Princess Book ” Of course., Hairy...Fairy! Then they remembered Aidan earlier saying “Hucking Hilarious!” And all four exclaimed at the same time, “Oh my God!
