Ode To Lucy

Nana, Mama, Roger and Aidan , your sister,

Wanted to attend a play while leaving Susan and mister,

To attend a child who was less than two years old,

We'll do it exclaimed Grandpa I've attended babies untold.

So off went the four to have some fun attending the play,

Way off in Watkins and they would be gone about half a day,

Thinking Susan and Grandpa would have fun was  a bit iffy,

Playing and feeding a small wee child named Lucy.

On that day Lucy had an appetite too big for a child,

But, Susan and Grandpa thought this cute and so wild,

That they kept feeding Lucy and laughing with wit,

And Lucy kept right on eating like a bottomless pit.

After awhile Lucy's stomach erupted with a growl,

And her diaper suddenly filled with a huge pile,

The odor was evident that something was amiss,

And Lucy's sweet face had a look of pure bliss.

Each adult had a feeling of a boat set adrift,

Her diaper was changed before her mama left,

Now what do we do with Lucy's big mess,

Our parenting skills will be  put to the test.

No worry said Grandpa I've changed plenty afore,

And I suspect in the future I'll change many more,

It's like riding a bicycle you just never forget,

Though in his mind he knew he might later regret.

Grandpa prompted Susan I'll need you to help,

And they prepped  the bathroom floor as their first step,

Plenty of room said Grandpa this child looks like a wiggler,

We need lots of room...make that space a little bigger!

When all was laid out and Lucy's diaper removed,

She started to wiggle and giggle as she moved,

All attempts to hold her were met with more glee,

Like a wet little fish she somehow wiggled free.

By the time she was wiped she looked quiet the mess,

So into the bath tub was the two adults best guess,

Then the splashing began to Lucy's delight,

Everyone was wet as the soap suds  took flight.

Mama, Nana, Roger and Aidan enjoyed the play,

But, the best fun was had on that wonderful day,

As the bathroom pealed with laughter and joy,

Memories made that day still give our spirits a buoy.
